WEEE: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Recycling and Material Recovery

Metal is reintroduced into normal manufacturing processes (copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, pewter, gold, silver, etc.).

Plastic is sorted by type (ABS, PC, PE, PP, PVC) and pelleted before an extrusion process which allows it to be used in the manufacturing of new parts. Glass is used to manufacture CRT screens.

Les déchets d'équipements éléctriquesA lasting solution for your WEEE

The CHIMIREC Group completes its gamut of HIW treatment by offering a treatment and recovery solution for WEEE. As a major shareholder in IMMARK France, a subsidiary of the Swiss Group Immark (a leader in the field of WEEE recycling), we are able to offer a solution which is close at hand to producers, guaranteeing a complete waste traceability and the certainty that the waste will be handled in line with current norms and regulations.
  • Manual dismantling of WEEE.
  • Metal components are dispatched to metal recovery plants (copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, pewter, gold, silver, etc.).
  • Plastic is sorted by type (ABS, PC, PE, PP, PVC) and pelleted before an extrusion process which allows it to be used in the manufacturing of new parts by specialised plants.
  • CRTs are recycled by SwissGlas, a glass manufacturer.
  • The destruction of toxic waste is entrusted to specialists (mercury neon lights, ink cartridges, capacitors).

IMMARK France – Beaucaire has a WEEE recycling capacity of 40,000 tons per year.

Information on the regulations

WEEE is waste from an electrical appliance which operates using electric currents (weak or strong) or within an electromagnetic field i.e. all appliances operating from an electrical socket, a battery or an accumulator (rechargeable).

The WEEE European Directive of 27 January 2003 was laid down in French Law by Decree N° 2005-829 of 20 July 2005 and applies to the composition of all electrical and electronic appliances and to the disposal of waste resulting from these appliances.

This provision was then incorporated in the Environment Code through Decree N° 2007-1467 of 12 October 2007. This directive introduces the principle that the waste producer takes responsibility for the WEEE and it imposes the following:

- In the case of household WEEE, the producer will pay for the collection from the point of collection, and for the treatment, the recovery and the disposal of WEEE, beginning 13 August 2005.

- In the case of WEEE produced by professionals, the producer will pay for the collection, the treatment, the recovery and the non polluting disposal of WEEE resulting from appliances introduced onto the market after 13 August 2005, unless alternative arrangements have been concluded.
